Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to help our client bring their medical robot to life. This role sits at the heart of transforming intelligent software and control systems into physical motion, precision, and trust. You will shape the hardware that clinicians see, touch, and rely on—turning advanced robotics into a seamless, human-centered experience.

From early concept exploration through production release, you will play a key role in defining how our robot moves, feels, and performs in real clinical environments. You will help convert ambitious ideas into tangible mechanisms, refine them through iteration and testing, and ensure they mature into reliable, scalable products that meet the expectations of both healthcare professionals and regulatory standards.

This is an opportunity to build not just components, but a system that meaningfully augments human capability and improves patient care.

What You’ll Do

  • Design. Simplify. Refine. Productionize. You will be asked to solve challenging mechanical design problems and continuously improve architectures to deliver clean, efficient, production-ready robotic hardware.

  • Lead the design of precision mechanical subsystems including linkages, motion assemblies, structural frames, and mounting systems

  • Demonstrate advanced fluency in SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, configurations, production drawings, and GD&T

  • Perform thoughtful material and component selection based on durability, wear characteristics, application compatibility, cost, and manufacturability

  • Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure precision, repeatability, and long-term reliability

  • Identify opportunities to reduce mechanical complexity, minimize parts count, and improve serviceability

  • Build and iterate prototypes, participating hands-on in mechanical assembly and integration

  • Contribute to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) to ensure scalable production

  • Translate system requirements into clean, robust mechanical architectures

  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to transition designs from prototype to production

  • Participate in risk analysis, verification, validation, and documentation within regulated medical environments

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in production-bound systems
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks; you are highly comfortable working in complex assemblies and producing production-ready drawings
  • Direct experience developing production-level products (not solely research prototypes)

  • Direct experience in medical device product development strongly preferred

  • Experience working within regulated environments (FDA design controls, ISO 13485) preferred

  • Demonstrated experience designing precision linkages and motion systems

  • Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing, GD&T, and manufacturing processes

  • Experience simplifying assemblies, reducing parts count, and improving mechanical efficiency

  • Experience in medical device, automation equipment, robotics, or complex electromechanical systems preferred

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in physical hardware environments

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, technically rigorous environment

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

  • Passion for building impactful technology that improves the lives of clinicians and patients

  • Authorization to work indefinitely in the USA

Bonus Points

  • Experience with robotic or electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA design controls, or regulated product development
  • Experience perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural, thermal, or vibration validation
  • Experience with precision motion systems, actuation, or sensor-integrated assemblies
  • Experience supporting early-stage manufacturing ramp or pilot builds
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Benefits
  • Equity: Company stock options.
  • Insurance Coverage: medical, dental, and vision insurance available
  • Unlimited PTO and a full winter shutdown
  • Relocation Assistance: Relocation assistance is available to move you near facility in the Columbus, OH area
